The current Dorset landscape
paintings — what's on the wall.

Every piece here is original, painted by hand from sketches I made on the spot — mostly across the combes around Sydling St Nicholas, Cerne Abbas and the South Coast. Some are large, some are very small. To arrange a quiet viewing in the studio, or to ask about UK and international shipping, please get in touch.

Mappowder

Triptych

This Triptych is made up of 3 canvases each measure 90cm x 90cm An Ode to the Farming Industry of Dorset’s Countryside Another from the series of Ansty area in the Dorset Downs. I made these triptychs in the studio after spending many hours walking and doing field sketches. High summer just before the harvest of wheat and barley, countryside comes alive with a unique vibrancy. The wheat fields, in particular, present a remarkable challenge to capture artistically due to their complex interplay of colors, textures, and the intense, often harsh, summer sunlight. Summer, the season of “eye candy,” for artist offers an extraordinary palette of hues, shadows, and textures that shift throughout the day. my paintings I hope capture the timeless rhythm of Dorset’s farming and its mark on this county.

Golden Cap — Triptych

Triptych

This Triptych is made up of 3 canvases which measure 76cm long x 100cm high Golden Cap, the highest point along the Dorset Coast and a prominent feature of the Jurassic Coast heritage, is a landmark I have long been familiar with. It dominates the horizon for those living and traveling through this part of Dorset. I have been fortunate to spend many hours exploring its slopes—walking up and down, around and beneath—while capturing the surrounding landscape and vistas through painting. Although the area remains an active working farm, much of the income generated by the hills and fields now comes from the thriving tourism industry.

Glorious Dorset

Triptych

Each canvas is made from Premium Cotton Canvas: 10oz 38mm Profile 80x100cm (Apx.32x39in). The painting is 300cm (3m) long if no gaps are left inbetween each canvas. Each canvas is 80cm in height and approx 4cm in depth. They can be hung directly on the wall. This is my interpretation of the chalky cliffs located between Seatown and Beer, situated on the Devon-Dorset border. Having lived and worked in this area intermittently over many years, I have naturally been inspired to paint its landscapes. I hold a deep affection for this region, where the chalk cliffs characteristic of the East transition into the blue lias clay of the Jurassic Coast, renowned for its rich fossil heritage. To the west, the scenery shifts to the striking red sandstone cliffs of Sidmouth and Ladram Bay. This location offers a unique vantage point, with views extending across both the Dorset and Devon coastlines. The area possesses a slightly more rugged character compared to Dorset, yet it is less wild than the more remote sections of the Devon coast further inland. It truly is a magical and distinctive landscape. Painted in the studio from field studies and memory.

Harvest Time

Triptych

This Triptych is made up of 3 canvases each 90cm long x 90cm high This painting was inspired by rolling hills and farm land surrounding the villages of Mappowder & Ansty in the heart of the Dorset landscape. I found my self dedicating a whole summer in the Dorset downs you cant help but feel part of the farmers seasons here when you live and work in this county. I wanted to create the feeling of nostalgia that these hot summer landscapes bring, childhood memories of running through the fields and climbing trees, long cool summer evenings after the hot baking days. I made a lot of field sketches first and then used these to create the impressionist views in my studio.
